Student Information for the Day of County History Day

Congratulations for all the work you have put into your history day project. All of us are proud of your work!

Here are some things to remember for the History Day Contest:

1. Interview - Every student will be interviewed by the history day judges. Be ready for your interview. Here is a list of questions the judges may ask.  Stand or sit proudly in front of the judges while they ask you their questions. The judges are interested in hearing all about your project!

Here are the different types of interviews that will take place based on your category:

- Websites and Papers - 5 minute interview with judge. Walk into the interview room and stand or sit in front of the judges for the interview.

- Posters - Walk into the room and stand in front of your poster at your interview time. Judges will walk up to you and look at your poster, then look at your process paper and annotated bibliography. Then the judges will interview you about your project. Students should stand next to their poster and wait for the judges. Following the interview, students should exit the room.

- Exhibits - Walk into the room and stand in front of your exhibit at your interview time. Judges will walk up to you and look at your exhibit, then look at your process paper and then interview you about your project. Students should stand next to their exhibit and wait for the judges. Following the interview, students should exit the room

- Documentaries - Walk into the room and hand your process paper and annotated bibliography to the three judges. Then set up your documentary (your documentary will already be on a computer, so find your documentary and open it up to show the judges). The judges will tell you when they are ready to watch your documentary. After the documentary, stand (or sit) in front of the judges for the interview.

- Performances - Walk into the room and hand your process paper and annotated bibliography to the three judges. Set up for your performance and stand there until the judges say they are ready. Complete your performance. Stand in the same location for your interview.

2. Process Paper and Annotated Bibliography - Bring 4 copies printed on white paper and stapled once in the upper right hand corner. Put your entry number in the upper right hand corner of the front page - this can be handwritten - your teacher has your entry number. Make sure you have an adult read through all of your paper work - especially for spelling and grammar. Pay attention to the correct format for the process paper and the annotated bibliography. Here is the guideline for writing a good process paper and annotated bibliography.  Here are some good examples to follow:

Elementary Poster Students - See your requirements for your process paper and annotated bibliography here.

3. Registration and Schedule - Registration begins at 10:00am at History Day. Registration will only take place between 10:00am and 11:00am. When you arrive at county history day, you will register by signing in. You will also receive a name badge with your interview time on it.  Please where that name badge during History Day.  See the map of the school here.  And here is the schedule for County History Day.

4. Exhibits and Posters - All Exhibits and Posters must be completely set up by 11:00am. Then students must exit the building until their interview time.

5. Photos: Please do share your photos via Facebook, Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag:  #ACOEHD

6. Awards - The top 3 projects in each category will advance to State History Day / National History Day – California in May. The top 3 finishers will receive “champion” medals and the fourth place finisher will receive a Runner Up medal. The runner up may attend State History day if one of the champions is not able to attend. See more information about NHD- California / State History Day here.

7. History Day Scoresheets - Judges complete a history day scoresheet for each project. This provides students and history day coaches feedback about your project. These scoresheets will be available to history day coaches organized by schools following the history day awards ceremony.  You can see what the scoresheets look like here

Any other questions, please check with your History Day coach or consult the NHD-CA History Day Rule Book here.
